Give Yourself Permission
By Messy Bun Therapy
You don’t need permission to be exhausted.
You don’t need permission to be overwhelmed.
And yet — so many women feel like they do need permission to want… more. Or less. Or something different.
We’ve been taught to make ourselves small. To be grateful without asking for more. To meet everyone else’s needs first and call that “love.” To want less than what we actually need.
But today, we’re changing that.
Today, you’re writing yourself a permission slip.
Because you’re allowed — without guilt, without apology — to want things that matter to you.
💌 10 Things You’re Allowed to Want Unapologetically💌
1. Rest That Isn’t Earned
You’re allowed to rest even if the dishes aren’t done, the emails aren’t answered, or the to-do list is still full.
Rest is a right, not a reward.
2. A Life That Feels Like Yours
Not just one that looks good on paper or checks all the boxes. You’re allowed to want a life that fits like your favorite sweatshirt — soft, honest, and truly you.
3. Support Without Shame
You’re allowed to ask for help.
You’re allowed to need help.
You’re allowed to not do it all.
There is no award for suffering in silence.
4. Joy Without Justification
You don’t have to prove how hard things have been in order to deserve a little happiness. You don’t need a reason to laugh, to dance, or to feel light.
Joy is not selfish. It’s sacred.
5. To Take Up Space
Emotionally. Mentally. Physically.
You’re allowed to speak your mind, set boundaries, and take the last piece of cake.
You’re not too much. You’ve just been told to shrink for too long.
6. Time That Belongs to You
You’re allowed to block off time for absolutely nothing. Or for something only you care about. You don’t have to explain where you’re going or why you need it.
You need it because you’re human.
7. Boundaries That Are Respected
You’re allowed to say:
- “No, not today.”
- “That doesn’t work for me.”
- “I need space.”
Boundaries don’t make you cold. They make you clear.
8. A Community That Gets You
You’re allowed to crave connection with people who see the real you — the messy, unfiltered, tired you.
Not every room deserves your energy. Find the ones that feel like exhaling.
9. A Version of Success That Feels Right
You’re allowed to define success by peace, presence, or softness — not just productivity.
If climbing the ladder doesn’t feel like you, build a life you don’t need to escape from.
10. To Be Fully, Unapologetically Yourself
You’re allowed to change.
To outgrow people.
To rediscover old dreams.
To be imperfect and still lovable.
You are not here to be palatable.
You are here to be real.
🖊 Try This: Write Your Own Permission Slip 🖊
Write this down and fill in the blank:
“I give myself permission to ______________, even if it makes others uncomfortable, even if I’m not used to it, even if I’ve been taught not to. I am allowed to take care of me.”
Stick it to your mirror.
Put it in your phone notes.
Say it out loud until it starts to feel true.
💬 Final Thoughts from Messy Bun Therapy 💬
You don’t need anyone’s permission to live a life that honors your limits, your voice, and your joy.
But if you’ve been waiting for a sign — here it is:
✨ You’re allowed. ✨
You always were.
